Kano State Ministry of Information throw weight to AGILE Project

The Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs has reaffirms its commitment to supporting the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project aimed at enhancing secondary school education for adolescents girls in the state.
This commitment was expressed by the State Commissioner of Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, during an advocacy visit by the AGILE team to his office.
The Commissioner emphasized the state government's keen interest in the AGILE project, citing its significance in advancing education within the state.
He highlighted that Governor Abba Kabir's administration has allocated N930,000,000 as project counter funding upon assuming office, underlining the project's priority.
Encouraging vigilance, the Commissioner urged thorough scrutiny of any documents to align with the state's religious, normative, and cultural values, aiming to dispel any misconceptions regarding the project's objectives.
Dantiye emphasized the present administration's focus on education, allocating 30 percent of the 2024 budget to the sector.
"Furthermore, the government has procured and distributed teaching and learning materials worth N900,000,000 and distributed to schools in the state.
Briefing the Commissioner about the advocacy visit's purpose, the state Deputy Project Coordinator AGILE, Alhaji Salisu Idris highlighted the five-year World Bank-assisted initiative in collaboration with Federal and state governments.
He added that the project's primary goal is to increase girls' enrollment, retention and completion in secondary schools.
Hajiya Halima Sadiya Tukur, Component Lead for Social Norms and Communications of the AGILE, outlined the project's three major components. These include the construction of 130 Junior and Senior Secondary Schools across 24 selected local government areas, lacking adequate educational facilities.
She further detailed various activities encompassed by the AGILE project, such as the renovation of existing structures in secondary schools, provision of small grants to 1,228 schools ranging from $8,000 to $16,000 to each secondary school for minor repairs, construction of boreholes and toilets, and allocation of larger grants of $60,000 to 300 secondary schools for major renovations, among other initiatives.
